Systema­tization of Research on Teachers and Teacher Edu­cation (SYSTEM)

Goal: Research on teachers and teacher education is an important field of educational research. There is a lack of a systematic of this multi-disciplinary research field that allows a synopsis of the largely isolated results from the single scientific disciplines. To identify references and synergies, the project aims at the systematization of the research on teachers and teacher education in educational sciences and subject didactics. So far, heuristic systematics for topics, methods, author characteristics and paradigms in research have been developed on the basis on science theory, sociology of science and an analysis of already existing classifications. The theoretically founded heuristic systematics have then been empirically validated by using them to code relevant scientific articles in major educational journals with appropriate reliability. Based on a better understanding of the research field, unnecessary redundancy can be avoided, gaps in research can be identified and filled and collaborations between disciplines can be established.
