Do you study at one of our partner universities? And would you like to spend one or two terms at PHTG? If so, apply to spend an exchange semester in Kreuzlingen. Here, you can study without borders and benefit from hands-on courses, a friendly atmosphere, individual support and the fact that everything is close at hand – both inside and outside the university.

We offer a wide range of modules, including courses in English. You can also choose individual modules at the University of Konstanz thanks to our close collaboration with this institution. In addition, our offer for visiting students includes a three-week school placement, German courses and a room in a centrally located shared flat. We also offer you a bicycle so you can get to PHTG quickly and also explore the area around Lake Constance after class.

Our Courses

If you have a B2 level in German, you can choose from PHTG’s entire range of modules.

However, you do not need to know German in order to do an exchange semester at PHTG: we also offer a selection of courses in English.

The International Office will be happy to recommend you a selection of modules that best suits your needs and assist you if you have any questions about the individual modules.

German language courses

Knowledge of German is not a prerequisite for doing an exchange semester at the PHTG. However, if you would like to learn German or improve your language skills during your stay, you have the option of completing one or two intensive language courses at the University of Konstanz before the beginning of the autumn semester (starting in August or September).

In addition, you can attend a maximum of two language courses offered by the University of Konstanz’s Language Institute during the semester as long as they are compatible with your timetable at PHTG.

Living and studying in the region

After class, you can cycle to the Swiss shore of Lake Constance or go shopping in Konstanz’s beautiful old town. National borders? Not something to worry about. Life takes place in and on the water. If you’re missing the big city, you’ll be in Zurich in less than an hour.

Financial support

Via the Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP), PHTG provides students from Erasmus+ countries as well as students from our partner universities in the UK, Ghana and the US with a grant. The amount of the grant for a one-semester stay ranges from CHF 1,900 to CHF 2,500, depending on the country of origin. Detailed information is available from the International Office.

#Accommodation for visiting students

You will generally be able to rent a well-maintained, fully furnished single room in a student apartment (3–5 people per apartment) during your studies at PHTG.

The rent amounts to CHF 456.30 per month for a one-semester stay.

Student housing

All apartments are located near PHTG.

  • 3–4 single rooms

  • Large balcony

  • Shared bathroom

  • Kitchen

  • Wi-Fi

  • Washing machine for shared use

The bedrooms and the kitchen are fully equipped with everything you might need (including towels and bed linen).

Bicycles

Kreuzlingen and Konstanz are only a short distance apart and are very bike-friendly cities.

We would be happy to provide you with a bicycle (deposit of CHF 200) if you would also like to get out and about on two wheels.

#Incoming staff mobility

Guest lecturers and university staff from our partner universities are very welcome at PHTG. The prerequisite for a staff mobility is a bilateral agreement between PHTG and your home university or an official invitation.

If you are interested in doing a staff mobility at PHTG, please send a short CV and a description of your field of work, teaching or research to the  International Office.

Before we can approve your application, we will check whether the contents and objectives of your planned mobility are compatible with and relevant for any of our departments and/or working areas. In addition, we need to ensure that sufficient human and financial resources are available during the period you are applying for.

We recommend that you start planning about three months before your intended stay. This allows us to arrange the time, duration, form and content of your visit in good time.

Financial support

Swiss-European Mobility Programme SEMP (previously Erasmus)

As Switzerland is currently only indirectly involved in Erasmus+, staff mobilities by lecturers and staff from partner universities are usually not financially supported by their home university. Instead, they can be funded by PHTG.

Via the Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP), you may currently receive a per diem of CHF 170 per working and/or travel day. Additionally, travel costs are reimbursed retroactively on the basis of your actual expenses (currently up to a maximum of CHF 500 within Europe).
