Promoting Spontaneous Classroom Talk in English
Practical and drama-based strategies: A practice-oriented workshop for cycles 2 and 3
Eckdaten
- Beschreibung
- How can we move beyond scripted dialogues and get pupils talking for real? This practice-oriented workshop supports teachers in cycles 2 and 3 in creating safe, engaging conditions for spontaneous spoken interaction in the English as a foreign language classroom.
- Inhalte/Ziele/Details
- Across two interactive sessions, participants explore what spontaneous talk looks like in real classrooms, learn how to adapt existing materials into talk-rich tasks, and practise low-threshold drama techniques that encourage risk-taking and participation. Practical strategies for scaffolding, managing multilingual classrooms, and assessing speaking in line with the curriculum are integrated throughout. The workshop sessions combine hands-on activities, classroom examples, peer exchange, and concrete planning for immediate classroom transfer.
Participants will
- gain an understanding of how spontaneous talk in the classroom can be fostered, modelled, and supported,
- design age-appropriate, talk-rich speaking tasks and learning sequences,
- use simple drama techniques to support meaningful and engaged interaction,
- align spontaneous talk with the curriculum (cycles 2 and 3).
